Reportage: Abu Dhabi

Filling thirteen sketchbooks and many loose sheets, this is the work of a year spent drawing on the streets of Abu Dhabi. I concentrated on the older, tight knit neighbourhoods to the west of the city, all of which are undergoing great change and regeneration. The verb 'to draw' implies a communication and a pulling together, and I found that reportage drawing allowed me to become involved and able to record, and share the life of the community. I learnt a lot about the place, which would have been impossible if I'd used a camera. The work was presented as a book for my final  Masters degree project, summer 2018.
